Young Hollywood Star Maxwell Huckabee Honorary Saint Patrick’s Day 5K Host    

Maxwell Huckabee, known to his fans as the young star of “Dexter” and also for his recurring role in “Mad Men,” will be the host of the Little Leprechaun Dash and an Honorary Starter of the 11th Saint Patrick’s Day 5K, March 16th, 2014, at Riviera Village.  The race begins at 8 a.m. in Riviera Village, Redondo Beach, CA.

The 11-year-old Huckabee is a resident of Redondo Beach.  The 5th grader has starred as the young “Dexter” and has also played Don Draper’s son in “Mad Men.”  Huckabee’s other appearances include  “Pretty Little Liars,”  “Bones,” and “Alias.”   Recently Huckabee has been playing the lead role in “Oliver,” during its February run at the Hermosa Beach Playhouse.  Huckabee, who has also appeared in commercials for major brands including McDonald’s and Mercedes-Benz, attends Alta Vita in Redondo Beach.  Theater has been a whole new twist for Huckabee who has been appearing on television since he was 3 years old.  He is represented by talent agency Amsel, Einsenstadt & Frazier and while he has formal management, he has had no formal training as an actor.  He is simply a “natural.”  Huckabee, while not a track star, is constantly running on the tennis court, a sport he is passionate about.

The St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run/Walk and Little Leprechaun Dash for the Gold expect over 2,500 runners to take the starting line in Riviera Village.  A share of the proceeds will go to local schools after-school programs.

Participants often race in bright green, Saint Patrick’s Day themed outfits with shamrocks painted on their faces and bodies.  They wear lucky beads, Leprechaun hats, and green party outfits.  Following the race, runners celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day at local restaurants and bars.

There will be prize money for the race with the men’s overall winner and the women’s overall winner getting $200, with second place, men and women, $125, and third place, men and women, $75.  There will be a team competition with the top five combined times by the fastest team earning special awards.  Prices to enter include an early entry fee of $30 by March 8, 2014, and $35 after March 8, 2014.  For the Kid’s Dash, the entry fee is $25 by 3/8/14 and $30 after 3/8/14.  All participants will receive a Saint Patrick’s Day Run T-shirt.  There will be chip timing, and age division awards.   The Little Leprechaun Dash for the Gold heats are separated by age groups:

9:30 a.m., Ages 10-12 Distance: ¼ mile; 9:40 a.m., Ages 8-9, Distance ¼ mile; 9:45 a.m., Ages, 6-7, Distance, ¼ mile, 9:50 a.m., Ages 4-5, Distance: “Dash.”

Mike Ward is the owner of Village Runner and will be the race director for the 11th annual Saint Patrick’s Day 5K. A former top high school, college, and post collegiate distance runner, Ward brings a lifetime of running experience to create events designed always for the runners.  “Our course is flat, fast, scenic, but also challenging for the runners,” said Ward. “The participants often set PR’s in our race.   So come run in your favorite holiday outfits and enjoy the party afterward,” stated Ward.
