Press Release Announcement

Torrance, Calif., January 11, 2023 – The City of Torrance is thrilled to announce the return of the annual Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration. After a three year hiatus due to the global health pandemic, the City is honored to bring back this iconic tradition.

This year will mark the 61st annual event with the United States Coast Guard receiving the honorary military branch distinction.  The U.S. Coast Guard is the maritime security, search and rescue, and law enforcement service branch of the United States Armed Forces.  The Torrance tradition will take place May 19th through the 21st with the 5K and parade taking place on May 20th.  Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of every May and encompasses the celebration of all six branches of the United States Military under the Department of Defense.

Torrance Mayor George K. Chen said, “We are excited to bring back one of the City’s most treasured traditions. This Torrance legacy, started under the leadership of Mayor Albert Isen in 1960 has grown to be one of the most anticipated events of the year.  It’s our opportunity to come together as a City to honor and appreciate all those who serve in our military as well as promote civic-military relationships. My colleagues and I are excited to see this event unfold this spring.”

Torrance is one of the few cities nationwide sanctioned by the Department of Defense to honor our Armed Forces through an annual Armed Forces Day Parade and Celebration.  The three day celebration will include a concert open to the public, parade, military exhibit as well as a 5K run and other special surprises planned for the weekend.
