Village Runner’s Inaugural “Big Game Day” 10K / 5K -Las Vegas – Announcement

Downtown Las Vegas, NV – ‘Big Game Day’ 10K/5K (Feb. 2, 2014)

big-game-10k-profileRunners can now celebrate the Biggest Football Weekend in America by running the first ever, ‘Big Game’ 10K, Feb. 2, 2014 in Downtown Las Vegas. The event has just been finalized with the City of Las Vegas. There will be, in addition to the 10K Run, a 5K Run & Community Walk. There will be cheerleaders and bands at the course to cheer on the runners.

The Big Game 10K and 5K races will begin at 8 a.m. on Feb. 2nd in front of Oscar’s at Fremont and Main Street. Travel packages thru local hotels will be available for the out-of-area, or local runners wanting to come Downtown for the race and party! Event sponsors include gold medal sponsor Nevada Health CO-OP, Nevada’s new not-for-profit, member-owned totally local health insurance provider with other sponsors to be announced soon. A complete weekend of activities surround the event highlighted by the Touchdown Tailgate and Awards Ceremony at the ‘Gold Spike’ immediately following the race. Most race activities will be centered in Downtown Las Vegas before Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, Feb. 2.   Goodie Two Shoes, Hollingsworth Elementary, and Las Vegas Academy are invited to be the official Big Game 10K race charities.

Big Game 10K weekend events include the ‘Big Game’ Kickoff Party on Friday night, Jan. 31 at Downtown Container Park with food, drinks, great shopping, and music. This will follow packet pick-up at Downtown Container Park, which goes from noon-7 p.m. There will be raffle drawings with contests around football trivia, music and movie trivia.

On Saturday afternoon Feb. 1, Big Game 10K pre-race highlights include the Big Game 10K Pre-Game “Beers, Burgers, and Pasta” Loading Party.

On event day (Sunday, Feb. 2) will be the Big Game 10K Run, plus the Big Game 5K Run and Community Walk. There will be prize money offered for the top three male and female finishers in the 10K and the 5K races.

There will be a Health & Fitness Expo during Packet Pick-Up in the two days leading up to the Big Game 10K and a race day Expo. Packet Pick-up is set for Friday, Jan. 31st, from noon-7 p.m. at Downtown Container Park. On Saturday, Feb. 1st, packet pick-up will be noon-7 p.m. at Village Runner in Henderson, NV.

“I have always thought that a ‘Big Game Day’ Run with the game later that afternoon would be a huge attraction for out-of-town guests wanting a healthy activity in Las Vegas to complement a fun Big Game weekend,” said race organizer Mike Ward. “It is also a great event that local runners can race in, and will be the ultimate fun party weekend,” said Ward.

There will be a ‘Big Game Day’ Costume Contest, where people will be encouraged to dress in the uniforms of their favorite NFL teams. ‘Local schools are invited to participate in the Costume Contest and to run or walk the race. There will be a battle of the bands at the race.

The Costume Contest is divided into various categories, including football costume/favorite team, Elvis, Las Vegas leading entertainers, showgirls, football referee, coaches, ‘tourist,’ ‘locals’ and a team costume competition.

There are awards for the top three overall finishers and top three finishers in each age category. There will also be special awards for the top three Las Vegas finishers in each event. There will also be a team competition for the top five runners from the fastest registered team winning awards. Race day activities include the Touchdown Tailgate Finish Line Celebration with food, drinks, beer gardens and live entertainment – not to mention watching the Big Game and cheering on your favorite team to Super Bowl victory.
