A nice Thanksgiving week writeup by El Camino coach, Dean Lofgren
Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and weekend. Thursday morning’s Turkey Trot 3-Mile race has always been a tradition in the local running community and starts the weekend off with Saturday’s State CIF Championships wrapping it up.
A few familiar faces from Thursday below- always great to see everybody there.
High School Writeup
CONGRATULATIONS to our local highs schools that competed so well Saturday at the State Championships in Fresno.
Highlights included Palos Verdes girls winning D-3; West Torrance boys 2nd in D-2; Mira Costa boys 5th in D-2 with Caleb Llorin 2nd in 15:15;
Elizabeth Chittenden winning D-2 leading Mira Costa to 11th place; El Segundo girls 8th in D-4; and Ethan Comeaux of Redondo placing 5th in 15:14.3.

Winner David Cardona (14:06) followed in 3rd place by brother Israel (ECC/North Torrance) in the high 14’s then 4th place ECC Alums Teddy Kassa (West) and Austin Van Biezen (Cal Poly Pomona/El Segundo).
Winner Calene Morris (Torrance HS) coming off her great season and NCAA’s for Cal Poly Pomona followed in 2nd by ECC Alum Haley Heinemann (South) who recently competed at NCAA D-1 regionals for Sacramento State. Former Mira Costa and Cal Poly SLO star Savannah Pio (2010 State D-2 Champion) relaxed in the high 17’s/low 18’s.
Always a ton of locals including South Torrance’s Chloe, Deana, South Alum Christie (now at CSULB), and South HS XC and Track Coach Rick Esponda.
ECC’s own Brianna Harmon (El Segundo) in the 18’s with ECC’s 1995 State XC and 3000/5000 State Champion Maria Lopez-Skarr in there along with longtime ECC XC and Track Asst Sean Sheil (now Head Coach at Fullerton College) running with ECC Alum Rosie Castro.
