10 Reasons to Register for the 4th of July 5K

In case you’re looking for an excuse to register for the 4th of July 5K, we’re here to help!

1.   Kayla Montgomery – Pathfinder Award Recipient

Help us celebrate as we award Kayla Montgomery, an awe inspiring collegiate runner (and viral video star) with MS, with this year’s Pathfinder Award.

2.  Dean Lofgren – Coaching Award Recipient

Coach Dean Lofgren, the long-time, title-winning, country and track coach at El Camino College, Torrance, CA will be awarded the first ever Running Mentor/Coaching Award. Lofgren has been coaching at El Camino College since 1991. If you know him, have run for him, or have had your children run for him, please come out and help us support one of our very own local coaches!

3.  American Cancer Society  
The American Cancer Society is the race’s charity beneficiary, partnering with Relay for Life South Bay to utilize the proceeds to support the charity’s cancer research and free patient programs.  Three dollars from each race registration will go the American Cancer Society!  Help us make a difference!


4.  Local Food and Refreshment Samples

Don’t forget to visit our sponsors and vendors for yummy food samples including Clif Bar, Fresh Brothers, Bettolino Kitchen, and Grow!

5. Fun for the whole family!  Kid’s races and a 5K for everyone!
The 5K run / walk isn’t the only race of the day?  Kids ages 4-12 can also participate in our patriotic Firecracker Dash.  All dash registrants receive a t-shirt, goody bag, and race medal!  Don’t forget to visit our sponsor, State Farm, for face painting as well!

6.  Patriotic Costume Contest   

Prior to the start of the race, there will be the Red, White, and Blue Costume Contest with prizes awarded for the best running costumes.

7.  Cash Prizes and Race Medals

Cash prizes to the overall top three male and top three female finishers.  Medals are awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers in each age division.

8.  Pacific Ocean Views
The 4th of July race course boasts beautiful Pacific Ocean views.  Need we say more?

9. GI Joe’s Annual $1000 Push-up Challenge

Join us for the annual G.I. Joe Bootcamp Push-up Challenge! If you plan to compete, be there by 9:15 a.m. The last man, woman or child standing will receive a $1,000 prize! The Challenge takes place on Catalina near the Village Runner store after the 4th of July 5K.
 


10.  Post Race Party at Rock & Brews  

Join us after the 5K for the official post-race party at Rock & Brews featuring food and drink specials and exciting raffle drawings.
